Upsetting yet .. admirable.

Somehow, the past 3 hours of my life were spent looking at pictures of tattoos that I find simultaneously disgusting and excellent... I'm not proud of it. But I do want to show you them:

Sorry.

Medusa...maybe?

This is a drawing I'm currently working on, it started off as Medusa, with mean ass snakey hair...but she began to look more like a strange Repunzel princess. So, I'm not sure what's going on here anymore, I shall carry on drawing and see what happens...

I have just returned from a magnificent adventure in New York...Here are a few pics from the Cutters Exhibition. Thanks to all who showed up! It was real busy, and my face got real hot as I was disguising my current dodgy haircut under a furry hat.

CUTTERS

HELLO hello!
SO, it's been a while...latest news is that I will be a part of an exciting exhibition entitled 'CUTTERS' in Brooklyn, New York. It's a show involving various international collage artists and it looks like there'll be some really interesting work involved. The picture above is some of my work in progress...
Needing little excuse to go back to New York I've arranged to fly over there for the show! I'm can't ruddy wait! So if any of you are in New York on the 16th, pop by the Cinders Gallery for the opening, and say hello! x

A6

I'm currently involved in a project entitled 'A6', which is a collaboration between 22 illustrators from both Singapore and the UK. We will be exchanging postcards with illustrations that express our thoughts about our future. More details can be seen here, and the postcards will be exhibited during the London Design Festival in September. KEWL.

No stripes, Wrong paper, Half price?

THUS I am willing to sell this print for half price..so, 20 quid? Drop me an email if you're interested...as with stripey, first come first served.
Have a splendid day everybody! Hip hip hooray!

Hungry Pigeon Exhibit and The Land of Oz

Thumbs up in Cord bar. Thanks for having me :)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Also, I have an exhibition coming up in the land down under!
I am participating in a show entitled 'Cloudy, Muddy, Messy, Mucky, Crystal Clear' in Brisbane over August. Unfortunately, I will not be able to shimmy over to the other side of the world to see it, but if anyone who looks at this blog happens to live in Brisbane, go check it out, it's being held at the Metro Arts Complex...here's the blurb:

"The exhibiton explores ritualistic mysticism, atavistic ideals, and personal mythologies in contemporary art. As well as a thematic connection, all of the artists are linked by their intricate and somehat obsessive aesthetic their practise holds, whether in print, drawing, assemblages, or installation."

Phew.

Stripey print has found a home...

Sorry to those who emailed me, you were just a little too late...if you would like to purchase one for reals you may email me again...and we can discuss this notion further. I'm feeling generous and giving at the moment, so I might cut you a good deal in exchange for an interesting fact.
Here is a nice picture to look at that will make you feel happy and warm in the mean time.

FREE thing for you?

I got this print done the other day and two phantom white stripes appeared on it. Now it is fairly useless to me, as no one really wants a print with naughty white stripes on...But, just in case anyone out there can see beyond the stripes, and would like to give this unwanted print a loving home, I will happily post it to you. For free! Just email me with your postal address and it's all yours.
Non-stripey versions will also be available to buy from my shop real soon too! :)

(Oh and the dimensions are 50 x 70cm, or "B2" just so's you know)

WHY I MISS NEW YORK...

video

BESTest.

This is my favourite music video of all time, for the time being.

It is co-directed by one of my top magic number one favourite illustrators, for the moment, Marcel Dzama. He makes pictures like this:

Good.
Yes, I've decided I do not want this blog to be entirely about me anymore, I was beginning to feel unnerved by writing about myself so often. So, I would like to draw attention to some other things for a while. Especially if they have ghosts in.

Flamingo Lake and a Tygrr

Two potential T-shirt designs for Beyond The Valley...

Brighton Brains

I thought I'd do a little note giving my thumbs up to all the new Brighton Graduates. I went to see their show in London's Rag Factory and was massively impressed, they're very clever. Check out their excellent brains here.

MOleskin

Here are a few bits and bobs from my little black book that travels about in my pockets and gets occasionally lost and found. I have recently become obsessed with Egypt/things that come in threes/pointy hats and zigzags.

NEW PRINTS!

...Soon to be available to purchase in my shop!
Limited edition screen prints will also be on display in the 'People of Print' exhibition taking place in Bristol in the very near future. The exhibition will be bloody good, and it's all come together thanks to the genius of my very good friend, and fishwizard Mr. Marcroy Smith.

Zine A

Here is a drawing I did for the recent publication from Tor press, called Zine A.
As you may have guessed, all the illustrations in it are related to the letter A.
You can buy / look at the zine here. It's a good'n, and eduational too, for those who need to brush up on their alphabet. Next up should be Zine B, if I'm not mistaken.

POPSHOT

Well, first off, big apologies for the recent laziness in updating my blog.
I'd like to blame it on something clever and interesting but the truth is that I've moved into a new house in London Taan, got overexcited and forgot entirely about things like blogs and the internet.

SO, here are a few things to show you that have been going on in the life of Sophie Kern. This is one of my illustrations in 'Popshot Magazine', It was accompanying a poem entitled 'The 24 answers to all life's questions'. The zine contains lots of lovely illustration and writing, check out more of its loveliness here.

CREDIT CRUNCH

Hi All!
As a lot of people, including myself are finding their pockets a touch lighter and their bank balance a touch depressing, I have decided to have a credit crunch sale in my shop! All prints are half price! Go buy one...or two, or eight? :)

(This picture is a direct representation of how best I think we can tackle the economic crisis.)

Beyond the Valley

Apologies for my recent lack of posts...I've been quite the busy beaver. Just finishing up my work placement with Beyond the Valley, where I've been helping design prints for dresses and tops and skirts and things. It's been amazing, and the shop is so lovely. Next time your in Carnaby Street, go check it out...hopefully by Spring/Summer, some of my designs will be for sale in there too :)

Mountaineering...

Here are a few photos from the start to finish of being a Visual Mountaineer for Fedrigoni Papers...(I stole most of them off Nicholas Saunders...I hope you don't mind Nick!) It was the private view last night, which went really well...There's some smashing work from all the illustrators on display for the rest of the month. So if you find yourself in Farringdon, go stick your head round and have a look.
(I was trying to hide my face from Nick's camera lense, but he caught me, darn!)
Massive Thanks and Congratulations to Hattie and Alex for making those incredible paper mountains and organising the whole project. Two thumbs up.

FEDRIGONI...

The 'Fedrigoni Mountains' project I am involved in, is in it's final stages...the work from all 12 Illustrators will be exhibited at the Fedriogni Showrooms in Farringdon, the show opens on the 31st of March, and will be up throughout April, if you wish to see it, which you should! This is a friendly goddess I have been working on for it...

Yesterday I answered the epic question...
